About Compulsion Coffee

Compulsion Coffee is a specialty coffee micro-roaster that was born in February of 2008 after lurking for several years as a dream manifesting as a hobby.

Good quality coffee has been a passion or Compulsion (if you will) that has lead Marty on a journey of over eight years roasting his own coffee.

There is much more to coffee than just being a beverage of choice. Coffee has a long history involving community and relationships from the beginning of its process where it is grown to how it is finally enjoyed in a cup. We are proud to be a part of the coffee journey with you and so many others.

We have a desire to not only improve the community in which we live, but also to continually learn and grow with others to help improve the coffee experience from start to finish. We offer a number of Fair Trade Organic coffee selections and hope to expand our ability to bring a positive influence beyond simply purchasing Fair Trade Organic coffee to the origins in the future as we are able.  To become Fair Trade certified, an importer must meet stringent international criteria; paying a minimum price per pound of coffee and providing technical assistance, such as help transitioning to organic farming. The idea behind Fair Trade for coffee farmers means community development, health, education, and environmental stewardship.

We have gladly made decisions to incorporate earth friendly efforts since it will improve our global community as well as our local community. Some of our green initiatives include the use of ECO friendly cups (hot and cold) and sleeves. Eco-Products introduced the new Eco Hot and Cold Cup made using an inner lining derived from corn. The new Eco Cups are 100% compostable.

Compulsion Coffee also saves the used coffee grounds and provides them to a local Urban Garden Initiative. I encourage you to check out the pictures of the garden at  http://ccgray2.iweb.bsu.edu/northstreet/

Before Compulsion Coffee began, we started a garden club with some of the neighbors and children in the Greater McKinley Neighborhood District and are excited to be able to use the coffee grounds from the business help as compost not only in our own small scale garden club, but in a larger scale local community garden effort.
